It has been an incredible second half of the season for Sevilla, and they could be on the verge of securing an unlikely spot in the top seven this term. However, they could yet achieve qualification to the Champions League if they are able to overcome AS Roma in the Europa League final in a couple of weeks. The Spanish side currently sits ninth in the standings, and they have won three of their previous five matches.
However, their winning sequence was halted in their previous match, as they could only play out a 0-0 draw against Real Betis at home. Sevilla dominated the game from the first minute, but they couldn’t find a way through despite registering four shots on target. They were strong defensively throughout, as Betis failed to register a single shot on target.
Elche’s stay in the top-flight has already come to an end, as they are unable to maintain their La Liga status. They sit bottom of the standings after 35 rounds of matches this term, and they have landed just four wins throughout the campaign. But, half of their wins this season have come in their previous four matches.
Elche’s improved form continued over the weekend, as they battled back to secure a point on the road against Getafe. Their equalising goal over the weekend was netted in first half injury time, with Lucas Boye netting the levelling goal in the 46th minute. But, this appears to be a tougher assignment.
