Stuttgart will be looking to continue their strong start to the domestic season when they welcome Union Berlin to MHPArena. But, which side will progress through to the third round? [banner][/banner]

DFB Pokal Preview

It has been a strong start to the new domestic season for Stuttgart, as they have continued to progress in the German top-flight following their promotion back to the top flight in 2019-20. They have certainly improved this term following their 16th place finish in the league last term, but their attention will switch to the DFB Pokal this week.  Stuttgart enjoyed a solid run in the competition last term, as they reached the final four for the first time since 2013. The German giants got their domestic cup campaign off to an excellent start at the beginning of the season, as they cruised through to the second round after landing a strong 4-0 win on the road against Balingen. Enzo Millot opened the scoring in that victory, before further efforts were added by Silas, Serhou Guirassy, and Wataru Endo. [news_button][/news_button]  It has been a strange start to the new season for Union Berlin, as they are battling at the wrong end of the standings following an excellent campaign last term. Their recent 2-0 away defeat against Werder Bremen saw them drop to 15th in the Bundesliga standings.  They have been regular players in the latter stages of the DFB Pokal in recent seasons, as they have reached the quarterfinals in three of the previous four seasons. In the opening round of the competition, they cruised to a 4-0 away win against Astoria Walldorf. Robin Knoche, Diogo Leite, and Janik Haberer all found the net in that win.

Stuttgart vs Union Berlin Head to Head

Union Berlin have suffered just a single defeat from their last nine matches against Stuttgart across all competitions. However, that defeat was suffered earlier this month, as they were thumped 3-0 in the German capital by Stuttgart on October 21.

Stuttgart vs Union Berlin Prediction

Union will need to respond following a slow start to the season this week, and a case could be made for the visitors that this is a good opportunity to get back on track. Therefore, we will be taking a chance on Union finally getting back in the win column on Tuesday. Make sure to bet on Stuttgart vs Union Berlin with 22Bet! Key Highlights

Eintracht’s Resurgence in Bundesliga Form

Eintracht have won their last two matches to highlight an upturn in their form in the Bundesliga.

First, they bounced back to their winning ways with a 2-0 win over Heidenheim before beating Hoffenheim away from home 1-3. These two results were followed by a 6-0 demolition of HJK in the Europa Conference League.

Eintracht will hope to retain their positive form when they host Dortmund on Sunday in the Bundesliga.

Dortmund’s Unbeaten Run in the Bundesliga

Dortmund have won the last five Bundesliga matches. They are unbeaten in the opening eight matches this season, with six wins and two draws. They have collected 20 points, just two behind leaders Leverkusen.

Having scored 17 goals and conceded eight, Dortmund have shown solid steeliness and potency in the final third; they will hope to extend this trend at Eintracht on Sunday at Eintracht.

Injury Report

Eintracht Frankfurt

Eintracht have a few injuries that will disrupt preparation for the home clash against unbeaten Dortmund.

Center-forward Noel Futkeu is out with a hamstring injury; the 20-year-old has missed the last two matches for Eintracht. Goalkeeper Kevin Trapp is also out of contention, with the 33-year-old nursing back problems.

Central midfielder Sebastian Rode, 33, is recovering from a calf injury since September 22nd, whereas another goalkeeper, Simon Simoni is also out of contention due to an elbow injury that has kept the 19-year-old out of the last eight Eintracht outings.

Eintracht will also be without defensive midfielder Kristijan Jakic, who is out with knee problems. The 26-year-old has been out since September 13 and has missed the last eight matches.

Central midfielder Mehdi Loune is a long-term absentee for Eintracht, having missed the last 14 matches for the Bundesliga side as he recovers from a cruciate ligament tear he suffered on June 22nd.

Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund have center-back Antonios Papadopoulos serving a yellow card suspension; the 24-year-old has missed one match already for Dortmund.

Right-back Mateu Morey is dealing with knee injury issues that have sidelined him for the last eight Dortmund matches. The 23-year-old is unlikely to be available for the trip to Eintracht on Sunday.

Another right-back, Thomas Meunier, is also a doubt for the clash on Sunday. The experienced 32-year-old is nursing a muscle injury he suffered on July 31st, which has sidelined him for the last 12 matches for Dortmund.

Prediction

Eintracht will look for a positive performance playing at home and looking to make it three consecutive wins in the Bundesliga.

The tactical focus for Eintracht will be to contain the attacking threat Dortmund poses. They will press and counter-press effectively to prevent transition attacks and construct their attacks when they win the ball.

Off the ball, Eintracht will look to be compact and solid, leaving no gaps behind or in between the lines for Dortmund’s creative players to exploit.

Dortmund will look for an energetic performance, which will be challenging given their massive performance in their win away to Newcastle in the Champions League.

They will look to be proactive and positive in their approach. They will control the tempo and possession of the ball.

Dortmund will extend their winning run by beating Eintracht away from home and taking the three points.
