Colombia and South Korea open their 2023 Women’s World Cup campaign on Tuesday at Sydney Football Stadium. Both sides will be looking to get off to the perfect start, as the battle for second spot in Group H promises to be intense.
Women’s World Cup 2023 Preview
There promises to be a competitive feel to proceedings in Group H, with all four nations holding a realistic chance of progression. Colombia will be making their return to the Women’s World Cup after missing out on a spot in 2019. However, they were competitive in the 2015 edition of the tournament, as they managed to make it out of the group before falling to the United States in the round of 16.
But, Colombia has won just once in seven previous World Cup appearances, and they have scored just four goals. However, confidence would have been taken from their performances in their recent appearance, as they landed a victory over France, before falling to narrow defeats against England and the United States.
South Korea will also be hopeful of forcing their way through Group H, despite under performing at the 2019 edition of the tournament. They fell to three straight defeats in the previous edition of the tournament, conceding eight goals and scoring just once. The nation has played ten World Cup matches to this point, but they have suffered eight losses over that period.
But, they come into the tournament this summer in solid recent form, as they have won each of their last three matches. That includes two victories over Zambia, where they scored a total of ten goals. In their final warm-up match, they recorded a 2-1 win over Haiti on July 8.
Colombia vs South Korea Head to Head
This will be a first ever meeting between South Korea and Colombia. However, South Korea has lost each of their previous two showdowns against nations from South America at the World Cup without scoring a single goal.
Colombia vs South Korea Prediction
South Korea’s record against nations from South America is hard to dismiss coming into this fixture. But, their recent form has been solid. We expect this to be a cagey opening match for both teams in Group H, as neither will want to start with a defeat. Therefore, we can see a draw being played out, with under 2.5 goals being scored.
