Thomas Tuchel’s side created very little throughout the fixture, as City dominated the play and restricted Chelsea to zero shots on target. It was a lesson for the Blues that despite being one of the early favourites for the title, City aren’t about to hand over the Premier League title without a fight this season. However, huge pluses can be taken from the early weeks of the season, as Chelsea do look like credible contenders this season. Four wins from six does illustrate a strong start to the season, but this fixture against Southampton is certainly one that they should be taking maximum points.
The wait for a first league win of the season for Southampton continues, as they are one of five teams yet to pick up a victory this term. They have picked up four points to date though, with all points coming in the draws that they have earned. The Saints have also lost on two occasions, which includes the defeat that they suffered against Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend. Southampton may have considered themselves unlucky not to have taken a point from that fixture, but they can’t wait too much longer to get a first win.
