Manchester City kick off their defence of the Premier League title at Turf Moor on Friday evening. The reigning champions take on newly promoted Burnley, who will be looking for an excellent season on their return to the top-flight under Vincent Kompany.
Premier League Preview
The wait for the start of the new Premier League season comes to an end on Friday, as Manchester City kick off their defence of the English top-flight at Turf Moore. It has been a summer of change at the Etihad, as the club have waved off Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan, with Josko Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic being brought through the door at the Etihad.
City kicked off their domestic season on Sunday, but they fell to a third straight loss in the Community Shield after conceding a late equaliser against Arsenal at Wembley. The Gunners kept their cool from the spot to win the first piece of silverware on offer this term, but it would be a consolation to City that the winner of the Community Shield has only gone on to win the Premier League title on one occasion since 2011.
Burnley made an instant return to the top-flight at the end of last season, as they ended the Championship campaign as champions. The Clarets were excellent throughout the campaign, and booked their Premier League return with seven matches remaining. Burnley were excellent throughout the season, which included a run of ten straight victories that put daylight between themselves and the chasing pack.
It has been a solid enough pre-season campaign for the Clarets, as they have won two of their four matches. They rounded off their pre-season preparations last Friday, as they played out a competitive 1-1 draw against La Liga high-flyers Real Betis.
Burnley vs Manchester City Head to Head
Manchester City has won 16 of their last 20 matches against Burnley, which includes a 6-0 win over the Clarets in the FA Cup last season. In total, City have won each of their last eleven against Burnley, with the Clarets last win over City coming at Turf Moor in March 2015.
Burnley vs Manchester City Prediction
City look excellent value to kick off their 2023-24 campaign with maximum points. We expect Guardiola’s side to get off to a dream start, and we would be surprised if they aren’t able to win by at least two clear goals at Turf Moor.
