Brentford will be looking to continue their unbeaten start to the 2023-24 Premier League season when they play their second home match of the campaign on Saturday. But, can they see off the challenge from Crystal Palace?
Premier League Preview
Thomas Frank will be delighted with the start to the season that his Brentford side have made this term, as the Bees have picked up four points from a possible six. Brentford’s chances were ruled out by many this term, as they will be without Ivan Toney until the start of next year. However, Bryan Mbeumo has certainly helped fill the void left by last season’s top scorer.
The striker has already scored three goals across his two Premier League matches this season, with two of those coming in a 3-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage last weekend. Yoane Wissa has also scored twice in three matches this term. Brentford’s record against London opposition improved last weekend, as they are now unbeaten in their last eleven derbies. This is currently their longest unbeaten streak since August 1955.
Crystal Palace slipped to a first league defeat in their second game of the season on Monday evening, as they weren’t able to find a way through a resolute Arsenal defence. Palace managed just two shots on target in that defeat, despite playing against ten men for the majority of the second half.
However, the Eagles have already landed one victory this term, as they claimed maximum points on the opening weekend of the season against Sheffield United. They could open the season with successive wins on the road this term, which would be a pleasing factor for Roy Hodgson, as the Eagles struggled for away wins throughout the previous season.
Brentford vs Crystal Palace Head to Head
Interestingly, each of the previous four Premier League matches between these sides have ended in draws. Both of the clashes last season ended 1-1. Palace have won two of the previous seven, with their only league win coming in Division Three in January 1964.
Brentford vs Crystal Palace Prediction
The trend of draws in this fixture is incredibly challenging to overlook this weekend, and it could be a lucrative angle. However, Brentford’s record in London derbies is the key angle to follow, as they have gone eleven without defeat. We will be siding with the Bees to land another victory against a London rival on Saturday.
