Last season’s top two sides Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund face of at the Allianz Arena on Saturday, with both sides looking to return to form following disappointing starts to the season.
Bayern parted ways with manager Nico Kovac earlier this week after managing just five wins in ten matches, while Dortmund are three points behind table-toppers Borussia Monchengladbach.
Bayern are one point further back in fourth, but with Monchengladbach and RB Leipzig flying high in the table, the two German big guns will need to find form soon.
Dortmund have only lost once this season, but with four draws in their last six, they will hope to start turning draws into wins very soon.
Team news
Bayern will be without the suspended Jerome Boateng on Saturday after he was sent off after just nine minutes in last weekend’s 5-1 defeat to away to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Fellow defenders Lucas Hernandez and Niklas Sule are also going to miss out, with Sule unlikely to return this season.
Dortmund could be without three key attackers Jadon Sancho, Marco Reus and Thorgan Hazard, with all three sufferings with injuries.
Marcel Schmelzer is back in training following a hip injury and could be in contention to play.
Prediction
This is a hard match to predict as Bayern have shown some of their best and worst football this season already.
The 5-1 defeat to Frankfurt last week was the last straw for Kovac, but with Serge Gnabry, Thiago Alcantara, Phillippe Coutinho and Robert Lewandowski all in their squad, there is no doubt they can cause Dortmund issues.
Dortmund’s issue has been drawing matches, with three consecutive 2-2 draws earlier this year, so their coach Lucien Favre will hope to see improvement at both ends.
The potential absence of Sancho, Hazard and Reus is a worry for Dortmund, but given Bayern have just sacked their coach, a 1-1 draw is the most likely result.
