Unsurprisingly, Liechtenstein will be among the outsiders to reach EURO 2024, as they have never previously competed at a major international tournament. In fact, in qualifiers since 1996, the nation has won just five matches from 68 fixtures. They also come into this qualifying campaign after having failed to win a single match in six Nations League fixtures in Division D last year. Their most recent outing came in November, as they were beaten 2-0 away from home by Gibraltar. It would take a heroic effort on Thursday to see them picking up at least a point from this opening qualifying match in Portugal.

There have been seven previous clashes between these two sides, with Liechtenstein yet to register a victory. Portugal has won on six previous occasions, including each of the previous two. Their most recent success came in the form of a 3-0 win in a friendly in August 2009.

Austria will once again be among the leading contenders to finish in one of the top two positions in EURO qualification. However, they will need a better campaign than they managed when trying to reach the World Cup in Qatar, as they managed to picked up just five wins from eleven games, as they missed out on a place in the World Cup for the sixth straight edition of the tournament.

However, they have managed to reach the EUROs more frequently throughout their modern history, as they have competed at the event in three of the previous four editions. Azerbaijan should come into the qualifying campaign in good spirits, as they have won each of their last three international fixtures. Their most recent win was a 3-1 success away from home against North Macedonia. However, they are yet to qualify for the EUROs as a single nation.

In the previous qualifying round for the EUROs, they failed to pick up a single victory from eight matches. However, their Nations League performances from last season could offer some hope, as they won three from six games to finish second in Division C3.

However, their most recent victory was picked up over ten years ago, as Austria landed a 4-1 in October 2011.
