Two sides that will be looking to get back on track in the Premier League on matchday two will lock horns at Villa Park on Sunday. Both Aston Villa and Everton were beaten in their opening matches, and there will be pressure to respond.
Premier League Preview
A lot was expected of Aston Villa before a ball was kicked in the Premier League this term. Unai Emery has spent big to ensure that the club remain in the hunt for a European spot, but they were given a stern reality check in their opening match of the new season at St. James’ Park. Villa were outclassed and outfought across the 90 minutes at Newcastle United, and were eventually beaten by a 5-1 scoreline.
The one bright spark was the performance of Moussa Diaby, who scored on his first start for his new club. However, there was concern in the match, as Tyrone Mings was forced off with a second ACL injury for the club in less than two weeks. Sunday’s match gives them an ideal opportunity to respond.
Everton would have been hoping for a much improved display this term after a narrow escape from relegation at the end of the previous campaign. However, there is work to do for Sean Dyche and his side, as they couldn’t find a way to break through against Fulham. The Toffees conceded late to suffer defeat on the opening day for the second consecutive campaign.
Everton only had themselves to blame for the defeat, as they had more than enough chances to land victory. However, they had issues in front of goal, and the long-term fitness of Dominic Calvert-Lewin continues to be a massive concern.
Aston Villa vs Everton Head to Head
Aston Villa have dominated the previous clashes between these sides, as they have won each of the previous four. Meanwhile, they have won six of the last eight against the Toffees. Everton’s most recent win against Villa came back in March 2016, as they secured a 3-1 victory Villa Park.
Aston Villa vs Everton Prediction
This is an ideal opportunity for Villa to bounce back to winning ways this weekend, as they face an Everton side with clear limitations in the final third. We expect the hosts to land maximum points, and we could see them landing victory by a comfortable winning margin.
