AC Milan vs Napoli Prediction: Serie A Match on 11.02.2024

Alex Dudley Alex Dudley

Two of the biggest teams in Italy will lock horns in Serie A this weekend, as AC Milan welcome Napoli to the San Siro. Both sides will be chasing maximum points in their hunt for a Champions League spot this term, but Milan could hold the advantage on recent form after winning four of their last five. But, can Napoli upset the odds and claim a second straight win.

Serie A Preview

It has been a comfortable season to this point for AC Milan, as they are firmly in the box seat for a spot in the Champions League next term. The Italian giants have won 15 of their 23 matches this term, and they have suffered just four losses. In fact, only the top two sides have suffered fewer defeats in the competition this term.

Milan are comfortably in the top four at this stage, as they boast an eleven-point advantage over AS Roma. Meanwhile, they are unlikely to mount a title challenge at this stage, as Inter sit eight clear of their city rivals. But, a lot of confidence will be taken from Milan’s form coming into this weekend, as they have won four of their last five matches. They are also unbeaten over that sequence, with their latest win coming in dramatic fashion against Frosinone last weekend.

Napoli’s title defence has been a disaster this term, as they already sit 22 points off the top of the standings at this early stage. However, despite a poor start to the campaign, they could yet make a charge for a Champions League position this term. At present, they sit four points adrift of Atalanta, but their form has improved since returning from the Super Cup.

Napoli come into this match after winning two of their last three, with their most recent success coming against Hellas Verona last Sunday. They will be looking to maintain that winning sequence, but they will likely need to sharpen up defensively if they are to continue their challenge to finish in the Champions League spots.

AC Milan vs Napoli Head to Head

Milan have picked up two wins in their last four matches against Napoli, but both of those victories were recorded in Naples. The previous meeting this term saw the points shared following a 2-2 draw.

Away victories have been a common trend in this fixture, with six of the last seven meetings being won by the side on the road. In fact, Milan’s last home win against Napoli was recorded back in December 2014.

AC Milan vs Napoli Injury News

Tijani Reijnders will serve a one-game suspension this weekend for Milan. Meanwhile, the home side will be without a trio of defenders in the forms of Fikayo Tomori, Malick Thiaw, and Pierre Kalulu. Meanwhile, the visiting team will be without Mario Rui due to suspension. Alex Meret is also unlikely to return until the middle of February, while Mathias Olivera is out for a couple more weeks.

Betting Trends To Consider

The trends indicate that this could be a high-scoring affair between the teams this weekend. Across the last three league matches between the sides there has been an average of 3.66 goals scored per game. However, both teams have scored in just two of the last six Serie A meetings.

AC Milan vs Napoli Prediction

Milan’s winless home record against Napoli at the San Siro is a glaring trend that is hard to ignore, despite their recent form in the competition. Therefore, an interesting bet could be the draw, with two of the last five meetings between the sides in Milan ending level.
