Guirassy's 32nd-Minute Goal Gives Guinea Win over Kenya
Serhou Guirassy scored in the 32nd minute as Guinea beat Kenya 1-0 at the Stade du 28 Septembre in Conakry on Thursday, 1 October 2026, in an AFCON 2027 (PAMOJA 2027) qualifier.
The win lifted Guinea to second in Group D on three points, while Kenya (Harambee Stars), already guaranteed a place at the tournament as co-hosts, sit third on one point, level with bottom side Eritrea.
Guirassy Strike Settles Tight Conakry Qualifier
Kenya had the first clear sight of goal when Micah Obiero broke through Guinea's defence in the 10th minute, only for goalkeeper Mohamed Camara to deny him.
Guinea responded through Abdoul Karim Traoré, who shot wide after Guirassy picked him out, before Guirassy's own free-kick struck the woodwork in the first half.
Guirassy then settled the match in the 32nd minute, finishing from close range. Kenya goalkeeper Byrne Omondi kept the scoreline level in the closing stages of the first half, saving further efforts from both Traoré and Guirassy.

Guinea Climb While Kenya's Status Offers No Cushion
The win answered a difficult opening round for Guinea, who had lost 2-1 away to South Africa on Matchday One, a defeat that stretched their losing run in all competitions to three matches and piled pressure on coach Paulo Duarte.
South Africa, meanwhile, beat Eritrea 5-0 on Wednesday 30 September to maintain a perfect start, leaving them three points clear of Guinea and five clear of both Kenya and Eritrea at the top of Group D.
Kenya's single point came from a 1-1 draw with Eritrea, with Ryan Ogam scoring a late equaliser.
Kenya and South Africa are set to meet in a double-header in November 2026.

Benni McCarthy's Half-Time Changes
Kenya manager Benni McCarthy introduced Ogam and Timothy Ouma at half-time in search of an equaliser. Ogam had the better of the chances that followed, forcing a close-range save from Camara in the 55th minute.
McCarthy also brought on Sharif Musa and handed Javan Omondi his debut, but none of the changes worked.
