Netherlands 1-1 Germany — Honours Even at the Johan Cruijff Arena

Jurgen Klopp's first game in charge of Germany produced a share of the spoils rather than the winning start he wanted. Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha gave Germany the lead in the 32nd minute, bundling in a low cross from Philipp Treu after Netherlands striker Brian Brobbey had gone down injured moments earlier.

Xavi's Netherlands dominated the second half without finding a way past Marc-Andre ter Stegen, before Liverpool's Cody Gakpo finally broke through in the 92nd minute, finishing a Ruben van Bommel cross to snatch a point.

Virgil van Dijk had earlier seen a header ruled out by VAR after Brobbey was judged to have impeded ter Stegen. Neither new coach starts his tenure with a win, and both sides sit on one point in League A, Group 2.

Benfica forward Vangelis Pavlidis set up Christos Tzolis to equalise in the 74th minute, before substitute Anastasios Douvikas headed the winner in the 90th.

The result, combined with the Netherlands-Germany draw, sent Greece to the top of League A, Group 2 after round one.

Kosovo 1-0 Republic of Ireland — Hosts Win in Prishtina

Kosovo's Fenerbahce striker Vedat Muriqi settled a tense League B, Group 3 opener with a late headed winner in Prishtina. Ireland goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher had kept the scores level with several first-half saves, denying Muriqi twice before the break.

The breakthrough came in the 83rd minute when Ermal Krasniqi's shot deflected off the crossbar and Muriqi reacted quickest to nod it in from close range. Ireland's best chance fell to Troy Parrott, whose header was comfortably gathered by Kosovo goalkeeper Arijanet Muric early in the second half.

The defeat leaves Ireland's Nations League campaign at zero points before facing Israel in their next two fixtures.

Mainz full-back Philipp Mwene finally broke the deadlock in the 90th minute, finishing a PSV winger Paul Wanner cross, before LASK's Sasa Kalajdzic added a third in added time.

The scoreline flatters Austria, who were level with a full Israeli side for almost the entire second half.

Lithuania's control of possession and territory was reflected in a 16-4 advantage in total shots.

Guillaume Lopez gave Andorra an early lead in the 17th minute, capitalising on a rebound after Malta goalkeeper Henry Bonello parried an initial shot. Irvin Cardona levelled for Malta in the 36th minute, finishing a Teddy Teuma pass, before Teuma turned scorer himself with an 81st-minute winner.

Andorra's late substitutes pushed for an equaliser, and the hosts also missed a late penalty. Andorra next face Gibraltar, while Malta look to build on a winning start to their campaign.

UEFA Nations League: Upcoming Fixtures

The league phase resumes Sunday, with matchdays three and four running October 1 to October 6. In League A, Group 2, Germany host Greece in Augsburg and Serbia host the Netherlands on September 27, before Germany host Serbia and Greece host the Netherlands on October 1. Group 4 also plays on September 27, with Norway hosting Portugal and Denmark hosting Wales.

League B's Group 3 continues on September 27 with Israel hosting the Republic of Ireland at a neutral venue in Serbia.

League D's Group 1 sees Gibraltar host Andorra on September 27, before Malta host Gibraltar on October 1; Liechtenstein's next Nations League fixture is against Azerbaijan, also on October 1. The league phase runs until November 17, ahead of the March 2027 quarter-final play-offs and the June 2027 finals.
