Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr will pull in a massive audience on Thanksgiving Weekend but there’s an undercard match that has people talking. World-famous YouTube star Jake Paul makes his return to boxing, the social media famous Paul scheduled to take on former NBA basketball player Nate Robinson. Check out the full card for the fight day on November 28.
Neither man is known for their boxing abilities, but this has been sanctioned and advertised as a professional contest. It will be fought out over six rounds in the cruiserweight division. Many lifelong boxing fans may view this as an affront to their sport but both Paul and Robinson have said it’s the real deal and promoters expect it to generate millions in viewing figures and cash.
Paul dons the gloves and steps into the squared-circle for the first time since beating up fellow Youtuber Ali Eson Gib. That bout took place in Miami earlier this year and ended with Paul, nicknamed the Problem Child, scoring an emphatic first-round knockout win. He has promised fans he’ll do the same again here but faces a tougher test in sportsman Robinson.
The pressure is on Paul to win and many with an interest in Youtube boxing expect him to do just that, calling on his limited but crucial boxing experience. Jake’s brother famously battled KSI twice in a bout that brought the concept of Youtubers settling their differences in the ring to the attention of sports fans. Jake has the chance to further boost his profile with a win on the undercard of a programme boasting some of the noble art’s biggest names.
Opponent Robinson is no stranger to professional sport, being a former NBA basketball player who enjoyed a successful career. He seemed all too happy to accept the challenge of Paul when it was put to him earlier this year and has promised to silence his opponent’s big mouth.
Robinson knows not everyone is taking his boxing debut seriously but he has assured fans he’s fit, ready and willing to fight and he wants nothing more than to defeat Paul. The NBA star has also said he’d love to try his hand at other professional sports after winning this boxing match, targeting the MLB as a possible next move.
It’s obvious there is no love lost here and although it won’t be a fight for the boxing purists, it will be competitive with both men pushing for the win. It may not have the skills as other pro boxing bouts but it could be more fiercely contested than some we’ve seen in the past. Both men will give it all with their reputations on the line and that will make for a fascinating bout. Seeing Paul’s previous experience in the ring, however, his chances are much higher.
Paul is 1.625 to win this fight at 22Bet with Robinson available at 2.485 and the draw 18.
