Como beat Manchester United 4-1 at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia in the Champions League on Wednesday 21 October 2026, according to ESPN. United conceded within the first two minutes, and the night brought a heavy defeat for Michael Carrick's side.

How the Goals Came

Nico Paz opened the scoring for Como in the 2nd minute, set up by Lucas Da Cunha. Tasos Douvikas doubled Como's lead in the 49th minute, set up by Paz. Paz made it 3-0 in the 57th minute. Jacobo Ramón made it 4-0 in the 76th minute, set up by Kaiki Bruno. Substitute Joshua Zirkzee scored a stoppage-time consolation for Manchester United, converting Amad Diallo's cross.

Conceding Inside Two Minutes — Again

The opening goal came almost before United had settled. According to BBC, Paz struck after 118 seconds with a left-footed shot from the edge of the box.

It was the second European match running in which United fell behind almost immediately. Eight days earlier, Atlético Madrid's Pablo Barrios had scored after 47 seconds. Sky Sports notes that United are the first English team to concede inside the opening two minutes of consecutive major European games.

Carrick made two changes at half-time, sending on Carlos Baleba and Diallo for Andrey Santos and Matheus Cunha. Como scored again four minutes after the restart, so the reshuffle brought no immediate control. Zirkzee then replaced Bruno Fernandes in the 67th minute.

Pressure Builds on Carrick

Absences did not help. Nine players were unavailable for United, and Matthijs de Ligt was making his first start in 325 days after back problems. Fàbregas had injury problems of his own, with Moise Kean, Assane Diao and Jesús Rodríguez among those missing, yet Como still controlled the game.

Recent results give some context. The defeat stretched United's winless run to seven matches in all competitions, three draws and four losses, a sequence that began with the derby defeat to Manchester City on 13 September. Como arrived with two wins, two losses and a draw from their last five, including a win at Fiorentina on Sunday 18 October 2026.

The most recent of those was a 1-1 draw at Leeds on Sunday 18 October 2026, which Carrick had called a fresh start. At full time, Carrick walked over to the away section and raised his hands in apology to the travelling supporters still in the ground. United's heaviest European defeat remains a 5-0 loss to Sporting in the 1964 Cup Winners' Cup. Once Ramón made it 4-0, one more Como goal would have equalled it.
