I previously mentioned that Milan isn’t great at defending, and therefore, the match could produce multiple goals because Real Madrid doesn’t defend well either.
Ferland Mendy has been a liability in possession since his arrival, and Dani Carvajal’s ACL injury affected Ancelotti’s plans.
Additionally, Real Madrid’s pressing has been dysfunctional ever since Kylian Mbappé arrived. This means that Real Madrid now have a numerical deficit out of possession. The midfield has also struggled to keep the ball, especially following Toni Kroos’s retirement.
As the game will be played at the Bernabéu, Real Madrid will benefit from the support of the home crowd. Playing at home also means that Real Madrid is likely to take the initiative and dominate possession, while AC Milan will look to minimise risks.
The game is likely to see goals flying, as both teams need a victory. AC Milan recently suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to Liverpool, adding to a challenging few weeks for the Rossoneri. Real Madrid, on the other hand, need a victory more than ever after the defeat to Lille (1-0).
If anyone will be leading the game, it would be Los Blancos at the legendary Santiago Bernabéu. Théo Hernández, despite being a talented attacking full-back, often leaves spaces behind him, something Real Madrid will be eager to exploit.
After fifteen years, the two teams meet again in the Champions League at the Santiago Bernabéu. Goals will be a certainty, and Vinícius Júnior will be looking to add to his tally.
Vinícius is more determined than ever to show that his football leads the club and the world. AC Milan, as much as any other team, struggles against this type of player, and it’s therefore expected to see Vinicius Jr on the score sheet.
