The pressure will be off Villarreal on matchday five, as their place in the next round of the Europa Conference League is already assured. However, there will still be pressure on H Beer-Sheva, as their challenge to finish in the top two could come to an end this weekend.
This looks set to be a very interesting fixture for Villarreal, but they will be happy enough to know that there is nothing riding on the game, as they have already assured their passage through to the next round as group winners. The Spanish giants are on the look out for a new manager, as much of the build-up for this fixture has been focused on Unai Emery’s departure as he has opted to take over at Aston Villa.
Villarreal has been extremely strong throughout the Europa Conference League to this point, as they have claimed victories in all four games that they have played. They have scored a total of 12 goals and have allowed just four. Their latest win in the competition was a 1-0 win on the road against Austria Wien. The only goal in that success was scored by Nicolas Jackson.
The pressure will be on the visiting side in this fixture, as H Beer-Sheva will need a positive result to take their fight to the final day of Group C. They currently sit third in the standings, but are yet to record a victory in the competition this season. The three draws that they have picked up means that they currently sit just two points behind Lech Poznan.
A second straight draw in the competition was picked up in their previous fixture, as they couldn’t hold on to their lead against Lech Poznan. The opening goal in that fixture was scored by Tomer Hemed, but Pozana equalised before the break.
The only previous European meeting between these sides came on matchday two this season. On that occasion, the Spanish side battled well to claim a 2-1 victory on the road. The winning goal was scored with just over 20 minutes remaining by Alex Baena.
Villarreal has looked very strong in the Europa Conference League this season, and while the departure of Emery may have an impact on their performance, we would still be very surprised to see them not win this fixture. Therefore, we expect the Spanish side to pick up a comfortable win.
