Torino vs AS Roma Prediction: Serie A Match on 18.04.2021

There will be important points up for grabs at both ends of the Serie A table on Sunday afternoon, as Torino and AS Roma both need to claim the win the further their claims of achieving their goals for the season.

Serie A Preview

AS Roma’s Champions League hopes have gone up in flames in the league over recent weeks, as they have dropped to seventh with eight games of the season remaining. Their best chance of qualifying for the Champions League now rests on their performances in the Europa League, as winning that competition would assure them a place in the elite European competition. Roma may still need to finish in the top six in the league to ensure that they are playing European football of some description next season, and they are currently one point off the Europa League spots in Italy. Lazio and Napoli currently occupy the two positions, but Roma could increase the pressure on Lazio with a victory this weekend. Roma claimed a first win in three last time out, as they beat Bologna 1-0. Borja Mayoral scored the only goal in the win.

It will certainly be a nervy end to the season in Italy for Torino, as they are in 17th place and just five points above the drop zone. Torino have at least increased their chances of survival in recent weeks, as they claimed a second win in four league games last time out. Their win came against Udinese, with in-demand striker Andrea Belotti scoring from the penalty spot on the hour mark. That was the only shot on target that Torino had in the 90 minutes, and they will need to be much better once again to challenge this talented Roma side at the weekend.

Torino vs AS Roma Head To Head

Torino have beaten AS Roma on just one occasion in the past nine meetings in the league. That win came in January 2020. However, Roma have won the last two, and they have scored three goals in both of these fixtures. The previous meeting between the sides saw Roma run out 3-1 winners in December.

Torino vs AS Roma Prediction

Torino’s recent form has been positive, but it is still hard to look past Roma claiming the three points. They desperately need the win the keep pace with the Europa League challengers, and the fact that they have won the last two against Torino is significant.
