Switzerland has already taken a keen hold on top spot in the Group I standings, and they will be looking to stretch that advantage when they welcome Israel on Tuesday. The visitors were held in their opening match, meaning that a victory will be needed to keep alive their hopes of a top two finish.
Switzerland already appears to be the standout team in Group I, and it looks incredibly hard to bet against them ending the group stage with maximum points. The Swiss has reached nine of the previous ten major tournaments, with their best ever showing coming at EURO 2020, as they reached the quarterfinals.
Qualifying for tournaments doesn’t come with much stress for the Swiss, as they recorded five wins in eight matches to reach the previous edition of the EUROs. Switzerland showcased their dominance in the opening match of Group I over the weekend, as they easily secured a 5-0 win away from home against Belarus. Renato Steffen was excellent in that match as he netted a hat-trick, with Granit Xhaka and Zeki Amdouni also finding the net.
Israel is yet to qualify for the EUROs, but they certainly appear to be one of the nations in with a credible chance of finishing second in Group I. They narrowly missed out on a place in the previous edition of the tournament after falling at the playoff hurdle. Meanwhile, they gained promotion to Nations League Group A after winning their campaign last year.
Israel was held to a 1-1 draw in their opening fixture in Group I by Kosovo. They may have been disappointed with that result, but they showed excellent character to come back after going 1-0 down. Their equalising goal was scored after 56 minutes by Dor Peretz.
Switzerland has won three of the nine previous meetings between these nations, with Israel claiming a single win. However, each of the four previous clashes have ended in draws. The most recent of those was a 0-0 stalemate in October 2009.
Switzerland appears to have struggled in previous matches against Israel, with the previous four ending in draws. However, we expect them to bounce back to form against their rivals on Tuesday with a straightforward 2-0 home win. We could also see Steffen adding to his goal tally.
