PSG will be aware that they can’t drop any more points in the final seven games of the Ligue 1 season if they want to regain their title. They face a testing game on the road this weekend, as they travel to Strasbourg.
Mauricio Pochettino’s future at PSG is already been questioned, despite the former Tottenham Hotspur boss only being at the club for just over six months. PSG are in an unusual position in the Ligue 1 title race, as their grip on the crown is slowly loosening. PSG are three points off Lille at the top of the table, while the sides below them are also closing and ready to pounce. There isn’t just a chance that PSG miss out on the league title this season, but a chance that they could miss out on Champions League football altogether. Monaco are one point behind PSG, while Lyon are two behind. PSG come into this must-win fixture having won just once in their last three. Their most recent defeat against Lille was the most important, as it saw a gap re-emerge at the top of the league table. Neymar also saw red in that contest, and will be missing for this game against Strasbourg.
The hosts this weekend look to be almost safe from relegation this season, but will need one or two wins just to confirm their Ligue 1 status. Their recent form has been better, as they have lost just twice in their previous six, which is one fewer than the number of games that PSG have lost during the same spell. Strasbourg have won twice in their last four. Their last win came last weekend against Bordeaux, with Lamine Kone, Habib Diallo and Ludovic Ajorque scoring the goals.
Strasbourg have beaten PSG on just one occasion in Ligue 1. That win came back in December 2017. Since then, they have lost three of their four meetings with PSG. They also haven’t scored in the previous two. PSG won the meeting back in December 4-0.
PSG will be aware of the pressure on them to win this game. Anything other than a win will mean a challenge to finish in the Champions League places, while a win is the only result that will keep their Ligue 1 title hopes alive. The travelling side should get the three points that they require.
