Scotland have known for a while that their chances of qualifying for the European Championships will hinge on this route. They finished nine points behind second-placed Russia in Group I in the qualifying stages, but they were given a second opportunity due to the fact that they are a host nation. In the group stage, they won five of their ten games, and lost the remaining five games. They have started their Nations League campaign in decent form, as they are unbeaten in two at present.
