Two sides that find themselves at opposite ends of the Serie A table will meet this weekend, as the in-form Sassuolo host the out of sorts Udinese. But, should it be a comfortable win for the hosts?
Sassuolo remain one of only three teams that are yet to lose a game in Serie A this season, as they sit in second place in the Serie A table. It’s unlikely that they will still be in this position in a few weeks time, but they will be optimistic about continuing their excellent start to the season this weekend. They have been in excellent form over their last six games, as they have won on four occasions. That includes three wins in their last four. One of those victories came in their last fixture, as they beat Napoli 2-0. That was an excellent result for the in-form side, as many expected their great start to the season to end in that fixture. Manuel Locatelli and Maxime Lopez scored the goals in that victory for Sassuolo. However, it was their defence that really stood out, as it refused to buckle despite the heavy pressure that Napoli put on it.
It has been a completely different story for Udinese this season, as they have won just once and are stuck in one of the bottom three positions in the league standings. They are just two points from safety, but their performances will need to improve if they are to get out of the mess that they find themselves in at present. There haven’t been many signs of that over recent weeks, as they have lost their last two league games in Italy. These defeats have come against Fiorentina and AC Milan. They were better in that defeat against AC Milan, but there will still be a feeling that they need to improve further.
Udinese have won the last two against Sassuolo, and they have kept clean sheets in both of these wins. Sassuolo haven’t beaten Udinese in five league games, with the last win for the hosts this weekend coming in 2018.
Despite Udinese having the upperhand in the head to head record, that will mean very little this weekend. Sassuolo have been in excellent form, and there is an expectancy that they will get the three points they need this weekend to go to the top of Serie A.
