It has been a reliable start to the season for Bayern Munich, as they have impressed across all competitions to this point. However, Bayern have been in excellent recent form, highlighted by their record 8-0 home success against Darmstadt in the Bundesliga last weekend. FC Saarbrücken will be massive outsiders in the betting this week, as they look to reach the third round of the DFB Pokal. The German minnows currently play in the third tier, and they have never landed glory in this competition. However, they have reached the semi-final stage on four previous occasions, including most recently in 2019-20.

FC Saarbrücken currently sits 15th in 3. Liga after winning just three of their opening eleven matches in the competition this season. They also come into this match after going three without a win. Saarbrücken battled for the victory in the opening round, with Tim Civeja and Kai Brunker netting the goals in a dramatic 2-1 success against Karlsruher in early August.

This will only be a second meeting between these two sides, and it will be the first time that they have collided in a competitive fixture. Bayern landed victory in the only previous clash, landing a 5-1 friendly win in January 2007.
