It hasn’t been an easy period for Hertha Berlin over recent seasons, as they were relegated to the second tier at the conclusion of the previous Bundesliga campaign. Mainz could yet join Hertha in the second tier next season, as they have started the new campaign in really disappointing form. The German side’s best performance in the DFB Pokal came in 2009, as they reached the final four before ultimately being eliminated. 

Mainz currently sit bottom of the Bundesliga standings after going their opening nine matches without picking up a victory. They have scored just nine goals, and have allowed 24 already this term. They needed to be at their very best in the opening round, with Ludovic Ajorque netting the winner against SV Elversberg.
