Followers of club football don’t have much to keep them entertained in midweek due to the UEFA Nations League games taking centre stage but there is a busy night of action planned in the Scottish League Cup on Tuesday. On this page, we focus our efforts on predicting Ross County vs Arbroath.
Scottish Premiership side Ross County were last seen in league action when losing 2-0 against Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers at Ibrox. The Gers broke the deadlock on 17 minutes when captain Tavernier scored a penalty, but it took until the 88th minute for the league leaders to put the game to bed, Barker netting late to bank all three points for his side. County failed to trouble their opponents for most of the contest.
The Staggies weren’t much more impressive next time out when drawing 3-3 against Montrose on the road in the Scottish League Cup. It was a match against lower league opposition they were expected to win but a fragile defence meant County ending level after 90 minutes before winning 5-4 on penalties. Everyone connected to the club will demand better in this match.
Arbroath are not a team that will be expected to make any kind of impact on this competition but they have made a strong start to the League Cup group phase and travel for this match having won each of their previous two games. The visitors have played two, won two, scored five goals and conceded only two at the other end.
They began with a hard-fought 2-1 away win over Stirling Albion before improving to blast out Montrose courtesy of a 3-1 result on Saturday. Webster put Montrose ahead but goals from Swankie, Thomson and O’Brien turned the tide in Arbroath’s favour and the players proved they are a force in this group. We’ll see just how good they are against a Premiership opponent.
Ross County are the Scottish Premiership side enjoying home advantage over their opponents. They aren’t in great form but will believe they have the tools to pick up an overdue win against lower league opponents. Confidence is high in the away dressing room and they will set out to frustrate their opponents and make things difficult.
Ross County are 3/5 betting favourites to win this match with the draw 13/5 and Arbroath 24/5.
