Following their midweek trip to Anfield in the Champions League, the focus of RB Leipzig quickly returns to domestic action as they welcome Frankfurt. This Bundesliga clash will kick-off at 14:30 GMT and the home team will hope to take all three points and strengthen their chances of challenging Bayern Munich for the league title in the coming weeks.
These teams couldn’t be separated when last meeting in league action, a November clash producing a 1-1 draw. Interestingly, both teams have found the net at least once in three of the last four meetings involving these sides and it’s possible, we could see a few more goals here. Both teams are pushing for a top-four finish this season which adds a little extra spice to the occasion.
RB Leipzig started the week second in the Bundesliga table, trailing leaders Bayern Munich by two points. There’s still plenty of football to be played, however, and the fact the Bulls are on a stunning winning run of form suggests we are in for a grandstand finish to the season. At present this is a two-horse race for the German title, and it will go right down to the wire. RB Leipzig boast stats of 16 wins, five draws and three defeats.
They continued their winning ways when last in league action, beating Freiburg 3-0 away from home last Saturday. It was a comfortable outing for the title challengers with the goals scored by Nkunku, Sorloth and Forsberg. The beaten team offered little, outclassed, and outmuscled throughout the 90 minutes of action.
Frankfurt have surprised many followers of German football with their good form this season and are in the hunt for a top-four finish. If they can maintain their form there is no reason why we shouldn’t see Frankfurt mixing it with the best teams in Europe next season, bagging a place in the UEFA Champions League. It would be nothing short of what the players and staff deserve if they were to make it into Europe’s elite.
Despite sitting fourth in the table Frankfurt are winless in their last two league games, following a defeat with a draw last time out. They were beaten 2-1 away from home by Werder Bremen in their final match of February and started this month with a 1-1 home draw against Stuttgart. Much better is required if they are to get anything out of this game but Frankfurt certainly have the talent to push their hosts all the way.
Two teams in the hunt for major honours this season with Leipzig competing for the title and Frankfurt driving at a top-four finish. With so much at stake, this could become a nervy 90 minutes as both teams battle to keep it tight and avoid any mistakes in defence.
RB Leipzig are 1.69 at 22bet to win this match with Frankfurt 4.6 and the draw 4.08.
