RB Leipzig will be hoping to get back on track in the Champions League on Wednesday after falling to defeat in their most recent fixture against Man City. They face a winnable clash in Group G this week, as they come up against Crvena Zvezda, who are without a win in two matches this season.
It has been a reliable enough start to the Champions League for RB Leipzig this season, as they currently sit second in the Group G standings. They were fine winners on matchday one against Young Boys, before they were professionally beaten by the reigning European champions on matchday two. That defeat against Man City leaves them three points off the top of the table at this stage.
Crvena Zvezda would have taken positives from their performances in the Champions League to this point, but they are still waiting to pick up their first victory in the competition this season. On the previous matchday, they played out an entertaining draw against Young Boys.
Leipzig comes into this match after suffering defeats in two of their previous three matches in the competition. However, both of their loses over that period have been suffered at the hands of Man City. Marco Rose is a proven manager at this level, as he has lost just three of his nine matches.
Crvena will desperately be chasing maximum points this week, as they look to continue their fight for a place in the next round of the Champions League. However, they haven’t recorded a victory in the competition since securing maximum points against Olympiacos in October 2019. Since then, they have lost five of their previous six matches in the competition.
This will be a historic first meeting between these two sides in a competitive fixture. It will also be the first time that Leipzig have come up against a rival from Serbia. Crvena have lost each of their previous two matches against German opposition, conceding nine goals in the process.
Leipzig’s record in the Champions League could be the difference maker when it comes to pinpointing the most likely winner of this match. The German side has been excellent against lesser opposition, and we fully expect them to have far too much quality for their rivals in Europe on Wednesday evening.
