Runaway Ligue 1 leaders PSG will be looking to extend their advantage at the top of the standings on Saturday afternoon, as they welcome Nantes to the French capital.
At this stage of the Ligue 1 season, it would be hard to predict anything other than another top-flight French title for PSG. They are flying along at this stage of the campaign, having won eleven of the 13 games that they have played. However, they will be looking to avoid making the same mistakes as last season, which means that they won’t be counting their chickens just yet.
PSG have shown excellent form since a defeat last month, as they have won three from four. They have also won back-to-back games in the French top-flight, which has extended their advantage at the top of the standings to ten points.
They were certainly made to sweat in their most recent Ligue 1 win, as they almost threw away a 3-0 lead against Bordeaux. The Parisians led 3-0 after an hour following a brace from Neymar and one for Kylian Mbappe. However, they allowed the hosts back into the game with two goals of their own in the final 20 minutes.
It has been a decent beginning to the Ligue 1 season for Nantes, as they currently sit right in the middle of the standings in tenth. They could yet be eyeing a European place this season, but they will need to find a run of victories to achieve that.
They have gone two without a win coming into this fixture, but have claimed victories in five of the 13 league games that they have played to this point. Nantes drew their last Ligue 1 fixture, as Kalifa Coulibaly and Randal Kolo Muani scored in a 2-2 draw against Strasbourg.
PSG have won 20 of the 22 fixtures that they have played against Nantes. The visitors this weekend have won on two occasions, which includes their famous win in Paris in March this year. There hasn’t yet been a draw between these clubs in Ligue 1.
Nantes may have beaten PSG in Paris last season, but it looks a tall order for them to repeat that success. It should be a comfortable afternoon for the Parisians, and we expect them to run out 3-1 winners.
