PSG are the clear leaders in France at present, and can extend that advantage over the next couple of weeks, as the sides below them keep dropping points. Monaco will be desperate for a result this weekend, as they could move into the European places.
PSG are sailing away towards another Ligue 1 title this season, as they currently hold an eleven point advantage over the chasing pack. However, they will certainly be disappointed with their recent performances in the league, as they have failed to win their last two games.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have been held in each of their last two fixtures in the league, as they have scored just once during these outings. After being held to a 0-0 draw against Nice, they were held once against by Lens on the road last weekend. The sides played out a 1-1 draw, but PSG were hugely fortunate not to have lost for the second time this season. Georginio Wijnaldum scored the leveller for PSG in the second minute of injury time at the end of the game.
Monaco will once again be looking to finish in a European place this season, but to achieve that, they will need to continue their recent winning run. The French giants have won two of their last five games, with those two wins both being recorded in their previous two fixtures in Ligue 1.
Monaco are currently three points off the Champions League places, and a two goal swing in their favour along with a win against PSG this weekend will see them rise to third in the standings. They picked up a second straight win last weekend, as they beat Metz 4-0 at home. Kevin Volland, Gelson Martins and Wissam Ben Yedder all netted in the win.
This is one of the biggest games in France, and recent league meetings have been dominated by Monaco. They have won their last two against PSG in Ligue 1, winning 2-0 in this exact fixture last season. PSG gained revenge in the Coupe de France, winning 2-0 in May.
PSG are the stronger side out of the two, but recent success in this fixture for Monaco will at least give them confidence. However, we won’t be betting against the hosts this weekend as we expect them to get back to winning ways.
