The closest challengers to Real Madrid in La Liga are back in action on Saturday, as Sevilla look to end their two-match winless run on the road against Osasuna. The hosts have shown decent form in recent weeks, after winning two of their last three.
There is an interesting fixture with important points at the top of the table on the line in La Liga this weekend. Sevilla are the closest challengers to Real Madrid for the domestic title this term, and could move to within a point of the reigning champions with a success on the road on Saturday evening.
Sevilla’s recent form hasn’t been without struggles though, as they have failed to win their previous two games in the league. They have also won just twice in their last five. Fortunately, Real haven’t been able to pull away at the top of the league, as they have also dropped points. Regardless, Sevilla have looked like a very difficult team to beat this term, as they have been beaten on just two occasions.
Sevilla were held last weekend by Celta Vigo. They needed to come back from 2-0 down in that fixture at home. Papu Gomez and Oliver Torres scored in the last 20 minutes for the hosts to rescue a point.
Osasuna are in the middle of the La Liga standings at this stage of the season, but could yet make a charge for a European place if they can hit some form in the second half of the campaign. They have been threatening that in recent weeks, as they have won two of their last three.
Their most recent success came on the road last weekend, as they picked up a 2-0 success against Granada. David Garcia broke the deadlock after 64 minutes, before Kike Garcia made sure of the victory in the 90th minute.
Sevilla’s record against Osasuna is extremely dominant, as they have picked up wins in each of the last four meetings. They are also unbeaten against Osasuna in the previous nine. Sevilla have won the last three without conceding.
The record between the sides makes for grim reading for Osasuna. It is hard to bet against the recent trend continuing this weekend, as we could see Sevilla running out 2-0 winners on the road to put pressure on Real Madrid.
