England conclude their dominant EURO qualification campaign on Monday, as they play their final match in Group C when the Three Lions travel to North Macedonia. Gareth Southgate could ring the changes ahead of a huge year in 2024.
Gareth Southgate will be delighted by his side’s performances throughout EURO qualification, as the Three Lions have breezed through the group after winning five of their six matches. England will top Group C regardless of the other outcomes on the final matchday, with their only dropped points coming away from home against Ukraine.
Their performances throughout the campaign have seen England move to the top of the betting to win EURO 2024 next summer, and it could be hard to bet against that outcome if their star players are in the same form as they are right now. Harry Kane was once again instrumental in the previous international break, as the Bayern Munich striker scored twice in a 3-1 home win over Italy. The success ensured England’s place at the EUROs next summer, and avenged some of the heartbreak of losing in the final against the same rival in 2021.
North Macedonia’s dream of reaching the EUROs came to an end in the previous international break, as they can no longer finish any higher than third in the standings. They come into this match after winning two of their last six, but defeat against Ukraine in October means that they won’t be in action in Germany next summer.
However, the hosts will take confidence from some of their performances in qualifying this year. The standout of those was an excellent 1-1 draw against Italy in September. They were also fine 3-1 winners in the previous international break against Armenia in a friendly.
England are unbeaten in five previous matches against North Macedonia. Over that period, they have recorded three wins, with the latest of those coming in the form of a 7-0 success at Old Trafford in June. However, two of the last five have ended in draws, including a 0-0 stalemate in October 2006.
All the pressure will be off England ahead of this final group stage match on Monday. That could make the Three Lions very dangerous. We expect them to run out as easy winners, and that could mean that they land victory by a three-goal winning margin.
