Tottenham Hotspur are playing catch up in their ambitions to finish Group G in an automatic spot for the round of 16. They need to win against Mura to have the best chance of topping the group this week.
Life under Antonio Conte at Spurs has started fairly well, as Tottenham are unbeaten in the three matches in all competitions that the Italian has been in charge for. However, the biggest marker that the former Chelsea boss will be assessed on this season will be whether he can bring a much-needed trophy to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Europa Conference League could present their best chance of achieving that feat. On paper, Spurs have one of the best squads in the competition, but are struggling through their Group G campaign. Their place in the next round is far from assured at this stage, as they have won twice in the four games that they have played, and have picked up seven points.
They are currently a point clear of Vitesse, but three behind Rennes at the top of the standings. They need a victory against Mura this week to keep their fight for the top spot going into their final home game, which is against Rennes.
Mura’s dream of reaching the next stage of the competition is already over, as they have failed to pick up a single point in the Europa Conference League this season. They have lost all four games that they have played, and have scored just two goals.
They have also been conceding far too many goals, as they have already allowed ten to this point. Five of the goals that they have allowed came in the reverse fixture against Spurs, as they were well beaten 5-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Mura have a fully fit squad to select from for this fixture on Thursday evening. Conte could be about to make a number of changes, as Harry Kane may be rested ahead of their Premier League fixture on Sunday. Dele Alli could be given a rare start, while Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso are out.
Mura are still searching for a first win the Europa Conference League this season. That wait is unlikely to come to an end this weekend, as we fully expect Spurs to flex their muscles and come away with a healthy victory.
