The battle for a place in the World Cup continues in the CAF region this week, and there will be a huge game in Group I, as the current leaders Guinea-Bissau take on Morocco.
Few football fans would have been giving Guinea-Bissau much of a chance of getting out of Group I, but they are in a strong position as we come into the third round of fixtures. Should they avoid defeat against Morocco on the road this weekend, then they could have an excellent chance of reaching the World Cup finals for the first time ever.
Guinea-Bissau are unbeaten in their first two fixtures in Group I, taking four points from fixtures against Guinea and Sudan. A first win in Group I came in their last international fixture, as they beat Sudan 4-2. Piqueti scored twice in that win, while Frederic Mendy and Mama Balde also found the net in a famous victory.
Morocco will still be heavily expected to reach the World Cup finals. They have played just one game in Group I to this point, with that coming in an opening day success against Sudan. The next week or so will be pivotal to their chances of reaching Qatar, as they face Guinea-Bissau on two occasions, and finish the international break against Guinea.
Morocco won on the opening matchday, as they beat Sudan 2-0 at home at the beginning of September. Nayef Aguerd scored the opening goal for the hosts, before the lead was extended following an own goal. This is a much more difficult task for the African national this weekend, but confidence will be high.
It will be famous fixture between the nations this week, as it will be the first time that they have clashed. However, the fixture comes at a good time for the minnows, as they are unbeaten in all five international fixtures that they have played to this point in 2021.
It will be a tense fixture between these nations in Morocco this week, as defeat for either will likely have a negative impact on their chances of reaching the World Cup finals. Therefore, a draw between the nations could be the most likely result, as we expect to see a 0-0 draw.
