Two of the strongest starters in Ligue 1 will collide on Sunday, with both looking to get back on track. AS Monaco have dropped to third in the standings after a recent defeat, while Brest are winless in their previous four in the French top flight.
AS Monaco enjoyed an excellent start to the season across their opening five matches, but they will be looking to get back on track in the competition this weekend after suffering two defeats over their previous five matches. However, Monaco have responded to setbacks excellently already this term, as they bounced back from their first loss of the campaign by winning their following three.
A similar response will be expected this weekend, as Monaco were handed a second defeat of the campaign in their most recent fixture in Ligue 1. That defeat was suffered on the road against Lille, as their rivals scored two quick-fire goals before the half time break. But, Monaco were slightly unfortunate not to find a route back into the fixture after recording 16 shots.
There will also be questions to answer for Brest this weekend, as the visitors sit down in sixth in the league standings after going four without a victory in the French top flight. They have won four of their opening ten this term, and a return to winning ways would send them back into the top five.
However, they will need to respond after suffering defeats in each of their previous two matches. The most recent of those came in agonizing fashion against PSG last weekend. The reigning champions stole the points in the 89th minute after Brest had come back from 1-0 down with half an hour remaining.
An interesting trend is the fact that this fixture hasn’t ended in a draw in nine previous clashes. Monaco have dominated the recent meetings between the sides, as they have won each of the previous three, and four of the last five. That includes a 1-0 victory in this exact fixture last season.
Both of these sides will have questions to answer this weekend, but we have been impressed by Monaco’s ability to bounce back after suffering a defeat. Therefore, we will be siding with the home side landing maximum points in front of their home fans this weekend.
