Manchester United vs Manchester City Prediction: EPL Match on 08.03.2020

The match of the weekend in the Premier League will see Manchester United host city rivals City on Sunday afternoon. This will be the fourth, and final derby of the season, and United will be looking for the double over their rivals.

EPL Preview

Manchester United’s form has picked up over recent weeks, and they are now the most in-form team in the Premier League. They are unbeaten in their last eight, with a win over City also included in that run of results. United drew their last game in the Premier League as they were held by Everton. A mistake from David De Gea allowed the Toffees to take the lead before Bruno Fernandes scored to level the scores.

Confidence will be high within the United camp going into this game, as they won their last fixture in the FA Cup against Wayne Rooney’s Derby County. The Red Devils were dominant in that fixture to book their place in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup. Odion Ighalo scored a brace, while Luke Shaw also found the net for United. This will be a bigger game for United and many of the first-team players that were rested in that fixture will return for the derby.

Manchester City also booked their place in the last eight of the FA Cup this week as they beat Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 away from home. City were better value than the 1-0 scoreline suggests as they were dominant throughout and should have won by more. City will also come into this game in good confidence after winning the first trophy of the season last weekend. Sergio Aguero and Rodri scored the goals in that Carabao Cup final win over Aston Villa, and Pep Guardiola will be hoping that their strong form continues with a win in the derby.

Head To Head

United holds the advantage over their city rivals as they have won on 74 occasions. The Citizens have won 54 times, and there have been 52 draws. The last Premier League meeting between the sides was won 2-1 by United, while the Red Devils also beat City in the last meeting between the two in the Carabao Cup, but the 1-0 win wasn’t enough to get them through to the final. The away team has won the last four meetings between these two sides.

Manchester United Team News

Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba will both be missing for the Red Devils, while Daniel James is also a doubt.

Manchester City Team News

Kevin De Bruyne is expected to miss out, while Aymeric Laporte and Leroy Sane both remain on the treatment table.

Manchester Derby Prediction

This will be another high-quality fixture between two very good sides. The fixture couldn’t come at a better time for United as they are flying high at present, but City will not want to embarrass their fans at Old Trafford. Both sides will be happy with the draw, and that could potentially be a good betting avenue.

Tip: Draw.
