Manchester United already have one foot in the next round of the Europa League after a comfortable win in the first leg last week. However, could Sociedad at least take some pride from a positive result when the two sides meet again on Thursday
Manchester United’s performances in the Premier League have been faltering over recent weeks, but they put in an excellent showing in their return to the Europa League last time out. The Red Devils were dominant from start to finish against their talented La Liga opponents, and take a commanding 4-0 lead back to Old Trafford following the game in Turin. Sociedad had the better of the opening proceedings in that game, and should have taken a chance that they creating in the opening ten minutes. However, United pounced on those missed opportunities as they were ruthless in the attacking third. Bruno Fernandes once again showed how important he is to this United side by scoring a goal either side of half time. Marcus Rashford also got his name on the scoresheet in the win, while there was a welcome strike from Daniel James, who has returned to form just when United need him.
Sociedad had no answers for the United threat in that game, as they could manage just two shots on goal in the 90 minutes. They may get more of a chance back at Old Trafford, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will rest many of the players that the Spanish side were unable to deal with last week with a huge game against Chelsea coming up on Sunday. However, the tie already looks to beyond the Spanish side, as they are unlikely to score the four goals that they need to get back into the contest.
Joseba Zaldua, Aritz Elustondo and Carlos Fernandez Luna remain out for the Spanish side. Luke Shaw, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford will be among the United stars rested for this game, while Dean Henderson will step in to replace David De Gea.
United could hand a first debut to Amad Diallo in this game, but a number of other experienced rotation players will also play. The Red Devils know that the job is done, which means that this return leg could end in a draw.
