Lyon have already assured themselves of a place in the Europa Conference League. However, they will have their sights set on topping Group A, which means continuing the excellent form that they have shown to this point.
Lyon have been faultless throughout the Europa League to this point, as they have won all three games that they have played. The French giants already have a bit of breathing room at the top of the group, but they will be looking to complete the double over the team just behind them.
The Ligue 1 side have won three from three in the Europa League to this point, and have scored the most goals and conceded the fewest in Group A. They will still be playing European football in the second half of the season, but they will be hoping that will be in the Europa League and not Europa Conference League.
Lyon maintained their perfect record with a third win on the bounce against Sparta Prague in their last game. The French side ran out 4-3 winners in a captivating fixture, as they came back from 2-0 down to take the points.
Karl Toko Ekambi scored a brace in the win, while Houssem Aouar and Lucas Paqueta also scored. Their chances weren’t made any easier in the second half, as they saw Malo Gusto sent off after 74 minutes.
Sparta would have been slightly disappointed to end up on the losing side, as they held a dominant advantage after 20 minutes following goals from Lukas Haraslin. They did have the final say in the sixth minute of injury time, as Ladislav Krejci scored. However, they must win this game on the road to still have a chance of reaching the next round.
Lyon have a fine record against clubs from the Czech Republic, as they have won all four previous home games that they have played. Neutrals will be hoping for a repeat of the first game between the two sides, as the 4-3 win recorded by Lyon was the highest scoring game in the competition to this point.
Lyon look to be seamlessly moving into the next round of the Europa League, and a win here could effectively seal that. We find it hard to bet against the French side this week, but it will likely be a lower scoring game than a couple of weeks ago.
