One of the biggest mismatches in the Premier League this weekend takes place at Kenilworth Road, as Luton Town look to upset the odds against Liverpool. The Reds come into the weekend knowing that they could move to the top of the standings if results go their way.
Jurgen Klopp will be delighted by the manner that Liverpool have started the new Premier League season, as the Reds currently sit just three points off the top of the standings. Liverpool have won seven of their first ten league matches this term, and they have suffered just a single defeat in the top flight.
The Reds come into this weekend in excellent recent form, as they have won each of their previous two matches in the competition. Their latest success was a straightforward home win against Nottingham Forest last Sunday. Klopp would have been delighted with the performances of his forwards in that win, with Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, and Mohamed Salah all finding the net at Anfield.
This looks to be a massive fixture for Luton on Sunday, and they will be huge outsiders in the betting to claim maximum points against an in-form Liverpool. The Hatters dropped back into the bottom three spots in the league standings last weekend, as they suffered a seventh defeat in ten league fixtures against Aston Villa.
Luton have landed just a single Premier League victory this term, but they have been unable to build on that win against Everton after losing three of their previous four matches in the competition. Only three sides in the Premier League have conceded more goals than the Hatters so far this term, while they have only found the back of the net on nine occasions.
This will be the first meeting between the sides since Liverpool landed a 5-0 win in 2008. Meanwhile, it will be a first league clash between the sides since January 1992. Liverpool have gone five without defeat against the Hatters, with Luton’s most recent win against the Reds coming in a 3-1 success in February 1991.
It looks extremely challenging to make a case for Luton this weekend, as Liverpool have shown excellent form across the opening months of the season. We expect the Reds to run out easy winners at Kenilworth Road, by winning by at least a two-goal margin.
