Two sides at contrasting ends of the Bundesliga table meet on Saturday afternoon as Bayer Leverkusen host Eintracht Frankfurt. The home side will be looking for the points that could possibly take them into the top four, while Frankurt will be hoping to get the win to drag themselves away from the relegation places.
Bayer Leverkusen have one of the most exciting young sides in the Bundesliga this season, but they will now find themselves at a crossroads. They have a big fixture this weekend against Frankfurt before they face Rangers in the Europa League next week. Peter Bosz may see the Europa League as a possible route into the Champions League, which means there may be changes for this fixture at the weekend against out of form Frankfurt.
Bayer have been in excellent form over their past four games in the league, as they have won three of those fixtures and drawn just once. Confidence will also be high within the camp, as they made it through to the semi-finals of the DFB Cup in midweek by beating Union Berlin 3-1. Bayer had to come from behind to win the game, with goals in the final 20 minutes from Karim Bellardabi, Charles Aranguiz and Moussa Diaby giving them the win. They dominant possession effectively throughout their fixtures and are ruthless when they get their chances, and that could be crucial for this fixture against Frankfurt.
Frankfurt have been anything other than clinical in their last two Bundesliga fixtures. They will come into this game against Bayer having lost their last two in the league. Those results leave them just eight points above the relegation places at present, but they were handed a boost in mid-week as they reached the semi-finals of the DFB Cup by beating Werder Bremen 2-0. Andre Silva and Daichi Kamada got the goals in the win. However, this will be a much bigger test for them.
Leverkusen has the advantage in the overall record between the two sides as they have won on 13 occasions. Frankfurt have won ten times, and there have been three draws. The last meeting between the sides ended in a 3-0 win for Frankfurt in October.
Kevin Volland remains out for the season, while Lars Bender and Niklas Lomb are in a race against time to be fit.
Bas Dost will be missing for the visitors, while Lucas Torro could be back in time for a place on the bench.
Bayer are the stronger of these two sides, and that could mean that they will get the three points easily. Frankfurt have been struggling over recent weeks, and it won’t be made any easier for them when they fall to a defeat here.
Tip: Bayer Leverkusen.
