Real Valladolid will be looking to move clear of the relegation places in La Liga on Friday evening, as they come up against Levante. However, will the hosts be able to get the points that will move them closer to European contention?
It has been a difficult start to the La Liga season for Valladolid, as they are currently just two points above the drop zone in the league table. They will be slightly concerned with the number of points that the sides around them are picking up at present, and will be wary of the fact that Elche, who occupy 18th position, have two games in hand over them. Valladolid have been able to pick up points of their own over recent weeks, as they have drawn three and won once in their last six league outings. There could have been an indications in their most recent league game that they are showing character to survive relegation this season, as they fought back from 2-0 down to secure a point against Elche on Tuesday evening. Michel and Joaquin Fernandez Moreno scored in the final 20 minutes for Valladolid to rescue a point in that home game.
Levante are currently locked in the middle of the league table, but will be aware that a consistent run of results could put them into contention for a European spot this season. They have shown signs that they are capable of doing that in their last six league games, as they have lost just once. However, their chances of achieving that will be hindered by the number of draws that they get. Levante have drawn two of their last six, and have won on three occasions. They were held in their last league game against Cadiz. Roger Marti scored two early goals for Levante in that game, but Cadiz were able to level the scores before the half-time break.
Valladolid haven’t beaten Levante in La Liga in four meetings between the sides. Their last win came in September 2018. Since then, Levante have won twice, and there have been two draws. Both drawn fixtures between these two sides came in the meetings last season.
Both of these sides have failed to find consistency so far this season, and that could indicate that the most likely result from this game will be the draw.
