The race for the top seven in La Liga will be the centre of attention in this fixture, with Athletic Bilbao desperately in need for the points to take their fight to the end of the season. But, will they be able to overcome Levante?
Athletic Bilbao had the chance to close the gap on seventh placed Real Sociedad over the past couple of weeks, but they have spurned two excellent opportunities. The gap remains at three points, but they will be aware that time is running out for them, as there are just three games of the season remaining. Bilbao have lost three of their previous six, and that inconsistency has been their problem throughout the season.
They have also lost their last two games, and could actually fall further down the standings if they are beaten again. Their most recent defeat came against Sevilla. Bilbao took the lead in the first half through Ander Capa. However, the visiting side turned the game on its head by scoring two goals in the final 20 minutes. Bilbao will have to be more solid against Levante.
Levante could be a good opponent for Bilbao, as they have struggled for form over their past five games. They have won just once in this run of form, and they seem appeased with finishing the season in the middle of the table. It is unlikely that they will be able to fight for a place in Europe, and the best that they could aim for is a top half finish, but that still looks unlikely. Levante have failed to win in their last three, and they have lost once in that run. That defeat came in their last fixture against Mallorca. They were uninspiring in that 2-0 defeat.
Bilbao will take confidence from their recent meetings as they have won three of the previous five against Levante. They have beaten Bilbao in their previous two meetings, with the most recent fixture ending in a 2-1 success.
Levante have been in disappointing form since the restart, and they do look like a team that are just playing out their final fixtures of the season with nothing to play for. That means that the preference will be for Bilbao, who are still hoping to finish in a European spot.
