Lens and Reims are both very evenly matched in the current Ligue 1 standings, but both sides will be looking to get back on track after failing to claim victories in their previous outing. But, which side will get back to winning ways in the French top-flight on Saturday night?
It has been an interesting start to the season for Lens this term, as they look to secure a second consecutive finish in the Champions League positions. They have recovered well from a slow start to the campaign, as they have now gone five without a defeat in the French top-flight. However, they will be looking to get back on track on Saturday after playing out a draw in their previous fixture.
Last weekend’s draw against Montpellier ended their three-game winning run in the top flight, but they likely would feel that they should have claimed maximum points on the road. Lens dominated the possession in their previous fixture, and they registered five shots on target. However, they couldn’t make the breakthrough against a compact Montpellier defence.
Reims will also be looking for improvement this weekend, as they have suffered defeats in three of their last four matches in Ligue 1. That run of form has seen them slip down the league standings to eighth, but a return to winning ways could see them climb back up in the French top flight to fifth spot.
The visitors this weekend would have been disappointed last weekend, as they were edged out by Nice away from home. Reims offered little in the final third throughout that fixture, as they mustered just two shots on target. But, they threw away a point in the final ten minutes after Nice netted the winning goal with just eight minutes remaining on the clock.
Lens boasts the superior record in this fixture, as they have gone eight matches without defeat against Reims in Ligue 1. Over that period, they have recorded four wins, with four matches ending in draws. However, Lens have won each of their last two home matches against their rivals.
There is little to separate these two sides in the league standings at present, and it could be a low-scoring affair between the sides on the field on Saturday. But, the narrow preference is for Lens to land maximum points to continue their excellent record against Reims.
