The Europa League group stages continue this week with a huge game on the road for Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs will be looking for the three points that they need to progress.
Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of qualifying for the next round of the Europa League, as a win this week will be enough to seal their place in the next round. Spurs are currently in second place in Group J, as they have won three of their four games. Tottenham’s only defeat in the competition so far came against Royal Antwerp away from home, and that is the side that is currently top of the group. However, Spurs have scored the most goals in this group so far, and also have the joint-best defensive record. Jose Mourinho’s side were great in their last Europa League clash, as they beat Ludogorets 4-0. The opponents in that game didn’t have a single shot on target in the game. Spurs took control in the opening half after a brace from summer signing Carlos Vinicius. Harry Winks and Lucas Moura scored further goals in the second half.
LASK are the only side that could realistically stop Tottenham from qualifying for the next round of the competition, but they must win this game to stand any chance. Antwerp’s and Tottenham’s goal difference is essentially another point, which means a draw in this game will not be enough to take their fight to the last game. LASK have won two of their four games so far in the Europa League, and they were beaten in their last game by Royal Antwerp. The Austrian side lost that game 2-0 and managed just two shots on goal. However, it was a red card for Gernot Trauner that really turned the game against them.
Lukas Grgic will be the only player missing for the home side for this fixture. Meanwhile, Mourinho will make a number of changes, with Harry Kane among the players that will likely be given a rest. Toby Alderweireld will be missing through injury.
Spurs will be the heavy favourites to claim the three points in Austria, and it is difficult to see anything other than a win for Mourinho’s side. Vinicius has been excellent in this competition, and he will likely be on the scoresheet once again for the Premier League leaders.
