Two nations that will be battling for their lives to stay in contention in Group I will clash on Tuesday evening. It’s unlikely that either Kosovo or Andorra will qualify for the EUROs, but the winners of this match can at least dare to dream.
Group I remains one of the most open-looking qualifying groups in Europe this year, with a plethora of sides likely to be in the hunt to take second behind Switzerland. Kosovo and Andorra are two of the more unlikely contenders to achieve that finish, but we could learn more about both contenders when they clash in the second round of group games in Tuesday.
Kosovo is competing in just their second qualifying campaign for the EUROs. In the previous edition, they recorded three wins from nine matches, as they finished third overall. They have shown that they are a competitive nation throughout their history. An example of that was last year, as they picked up three wins from six matches in the Nations League. They come into this match after an impressive draw in their opening fixture away from home against Israel.
Andorra will be the massive outsiders to finish in one of the top two places in Group I. They have won just one qualifying match in their history, losing 58 of the 60 matches that they have played. The nation did enjoy a fine run of results in the Nations League, as they registered two wins from six matches.
It is incredibly hard to make a case for the nation based on their previous performance in Group I, as they fell to a 2-0 home defeat against Romania. In that match, they had just 29% of the ball, and registered just a single shot on target.
This will be the first official meeting between the two nations. However, they have met in U21 competition on four occasions in the past four years, with Kosovo registering wins in all matches. Over that period, they netted ten goals, and didn’t concede a single effort.
It’s incredibly hard to see Andorra scoring against Kosovo, let alone win. Therefore, we will be siding with the hosts to land a wide-margin victory over their Group I rivals on Tuesday evening.
