This has been an unprecedented period of success for Wales in terms of qualification, as they have reached a World Cup and a European Championship in the previous ten years. Latvia did enjoy a steady campaign in Nations League Division D last year, as they registered four wins from the six matches that they played to earn promotion. However, whether they can compete against some of the best on the continent remains up for debate.

This is only the second time that Wales and Latvia have clashed in an international fixture. The previous meeting took place in a friendly in August 2004, with Wales registered a comfortable 2-0 win on the road.
