The pressure on Massimiliano Allegri is already mounting at this early stage of the season, as Juventus haven’t got their new campaign off to the best start. They will be looking for just a second win of the campaign on Wednesday, as they take on Spezia.
Juventus come into this fixture on Wednesday sitting eighth in the Serie A standings. They are yet to hit top form this term, as they have won just once in their opening fixtures. That win came on the opening day of the season against Sassuolo, and they have been held in each of their previous two fixtures.
The frustrations of fans was evident following their latest fixture, as they played out a 1-1 home draw against AS Roma. Paulo Dybala came back to haunt his old team, as the former Juventus star set up Roma’s equaliser for Tammy Abraham. The Old Lady had gone into the lead early in the fixture, as Dusan Vlahovic opened the scoring after just two minutes. However, Allegri will be needing a positive result this week against Spezia to get back on track.
Spezia’s aim this season will be to finish in the middle of the league standings, and they have already shown that they look capable of that finish this term. They have won once, lost once and drawn once in their opening three games, as they sit 13th in the league standings.
They showed excellent character in their previous fixture to earn a 2-2 draw against Sassuolo. Simeone Bastoni scored Spezia’s first goal in the draw, while M’Bala Nzola had given the home side a lead before the half time break. However, they were forced to settle for a point as Sassuolo struck back early in the second half. Spezia will be without Albin Ekdal for the fixture on Wednesday, as he was sent off with nine minutes remaining on Saturday.
The Old Lady have picked up four wins from the previous four fixtures between the two sides. They have scored at least three goals in three of the previous matches, with the only exception coming in the latest meeting between the sides, as Juventus won 1-0 at the Allianz Stadium in March.
Juventus has a strong record in this fixture, and it could be maintained with another win on Wednesday. However, it may not be a vintage display from the Old Lady, as they have struggled throughout the games that they have played this term.
