The curtain comes down on another entertaining Serie A season this weekend, as Juventus play host to AS Roma. But, will the champions be able to end the season with one final success?
It has been another memorable season for Juventus this term, as Maurizio Sarri has won his first-ever domestic league title. Juventus have certainly faced stiffer competition this year, as Inter Milan, Atalanta and Lazio have pushed them to the edge. That could be highlighted this weekend, as there could be just one point between the Old lady and the chasing pack.
Juventus have been in terrible form over their last six games, as they have won just tice and have lost on two occasions. It certainly doesn’t look good for their chances in the Champions League, which is due to restart next week. They will be keen to end the season in good form to increase their chances of making it through to the next round of the Champions League. The Old Lady were beat 2-0 in their last fixture by Cagliari, with Luca Gagliano and Giovanni Simeone scoring the goals in the first half. Juventus will have to play much better against Roma to get the three points.
AS Roma have confirmed their place in the Europa League for next season as they are now eight points above Napoli. Their form has been excellent over the last six games, as they have won five times and drawn just once. They have recovered excellently from an early wobble at the beginning of the restart. They will come into this fixture in good confidence after edging a 3-2 win against Torino in their last fixture. Edin Dzeko, Chris Smalling and Amadou Diawara scored the goals in that success for the travelling side.
Juventus holds the advantage over AS Roma going into this fixture as they have won three of the previous four meetings. The most recent of those come in the Coppa Italia meeting between the sides back in January. AS Roma’s last fixture came at the end of last season in Serie A as they won 2-0.
There is a sense that Juventus have turned their attentions towards the Champions League. That could be dangerous against a side like AS Roma who have been in excellent form since the restart. The preference is for the away side to end the season with a win.
