Former UFC light heavyweight champion John Jones has announced his move to the heavyweight division.
“I’ve had only three close fights in the last decade, it’s safe to say the light heavy weight division has been cleared. Now I enter the heavyweight division when it’s at its all time best…,” Jones wrote on his Twitter page.
Earlier, the 33-year-old mixed martial artist announced that he would vacate the light heavyweight title.
UFC President Dana White, commenting on Jones’ chances of getting a heavyweight title, said that Jones would not be the first in line to fight Stipe Miocic.
Jones has been performing in MMA since 2008. His last fight was in February 2020. In it, he defeated Dominic Reyes by unanimous decision. His current UFC record stands at 26 victories, 1 defeat, and 1 fight that was declared invalid.
