Top spot in Group A of the Europa Conference League is yet to be decided, but Istanbul Basaksehir will be looking to secure that final finishing position this week as they host SPL side Hearts.
It has been an excellent Europa Conference League campaign to this point for Istanbul Basaksehir, but they will be looking to ensure that they have the best possible chance of going deep in the competition this term by finishing top of the Group A standings. They have their own fate in their own hands for this fixture, as they currently sit top of the group. However, they will need a victory to secure that finish.
Istanbul has been fairly consistent throughout the season in Europe this term, as they have won three of the five games that they have played. They have lost on just one occasion, but they have scored the highest number of goals and conceded the fewest goals in Group B. Their first defeat in the competition this season was suffered in their previous match against Fiorentina.
It has been a fairly decent campaign in the Europa Conference League this season for Hearts, but their journey will end after this fixture. Still, they will take confidence from the fact that they have won twice in five games, and will not finish bottom of the Group B standings.
They picked up a second victory in the competition this term in their previous match, as they claimed a 2-1 home win against RFS. The scoring was opened after just three minutes by Lawrence Shankland, before Andy Haliday scored the scored goal in the match just nine minutes later.
This is just the second European meeting between these two club sides. The first meeting came on matchday one, with Istanbul claiming a very comfortable 4-0 away success. Hearts will need to be much better in this reverse fixture if they have any hope of getting something out of the game.
Istanbul were extremely dominant in the previous fixture between the two sides on matchday one. That is extremely concerning when it comes to the chances of Hearts in the reverse fixture on Thursday. We struggle to look past the Turkish side.
