Two of the top six in La Liga will do battle this weekend as Valencia travel to Getafe looking to get a vital three points that could lift them into the top four. Meanwhile, Getafe have been one of the surprise packages this season, and another win for them could pull them closer to second-placed Barcelona.
Getafe have been in excellent form this season, and if they continue their run of consistent results, then they could be rewarded with a first-ever season in the Champions League. They have lost only five games this season, which is only one more than Barcelona. They are seven points behind the Catalan club. Their form over the last five games has been brilliant. They have lost just twice in that space of time, and have won their last three games in La Liga.
During this winning run, Getafe have beaten Leganes, Real Betis, and most recently Athletic Bilbao. Getafe have scored six goals during this run of victories and are yet to concede a goal. Their last outing against Bilbao ended in a comfortable 2-0 away win. Damian Suarez and Jaime Mata scored the goals for Getafe in that game.
Meanwhile, Valencia have recovered from a rocky start to the season to pull themselves within touching distance of the top four. They are currently a point and a place about Atletico Madrid, and win this weekend could see them end the round of games as high as second. Valencia have been in excellent form over their last five games, as they have only been beaten once.
The traveling side on Saturday have won their last two games and will be high on confidence ahead of their trip to Getafe. Their last two league wins have come against Barcelona and Celta Vigo. That victory over Barcelona was their best performance of the season and highlighted just how good they can be when they are in form. They haven’t conceded in these last two games either, which means that this will be a competitive game with little between the two sides.
These two sides have met on 31 occasions in the past, with Valencia holding the advantage having won on 16 occasions. Getafe have won eight games and there have been seven draws. Valencia average 1.7 goals against Getafe, while Getafe average 1.3 goals. The last meeting between the sides was a pulsating 3-3 draw.
The hosts will be without Markel Bergara for the visit of Valencia. Meanwhile, Filip Manojiovic could be fit enough for a place on the bench.
Francis Coquelin and Daniel Wass will be missing through suspension. Meanwhile, Ezequiel Garay, Manu Vallejo and Denis Cheryshev will be missing through injury.
This could be the game of the weekend in La Liga. Getafe have shown throughout the season that they are a difficult side to beat, while Valencia’s recent form shows that they are back to their best. It’s difficult to pick a winner, but there isn’t going to be a lot of goals in this game.
Tip: Under 2.5 goals.
