Two sides that will be hoping to build momentum when the Bundesliga resumes this weekend will lock horns on Saturday. Both Freiburg and Borussia Dortmund currently sit in eighth and ninth, respectively. But, which side will claim maximum points this weekend?
It hasn’t been the best start to the new season for Borussia Dortmund, as they already find themselves four points off the top of the standings. The German giants will be hoping to get back on track this weekend after being held to draws in each of their last two matches. A victory could see them end the weekend back inside the Champions League spots at this early stage.
Dortmund would have been extremely disappointed with their most recent performance, as they threw away a 2-0 advantage to draw 2-2 against newly promoted Heidenheim. Julian Brandt opened the scoring after just seven minutes, before a second was added from the penalty spot by Emre Can eight minutes later. However, the visitors snatched a point inside the final eight minutes from the penalty spot.
Freiburg currently sits a place higher in the league standings than Dortmund, as they have won two of their opening three matches. Like their rivals, a victory this weekend could see them end the round of fixtures in the Champions League spots at this early stage of the campaign.
However, Freiburg will be looking for a response this weekend, as their two-game winning start to the season was ended before the international break. It was a really disappointing performance by the side on that day, as they fell to a huge 5-0 defeat on the road against Stuttgart. It was a slightly strange outcome, as Freiburg dominated the possession, and registered more shots on target than their rivals.
Dortmund have won each of their last three matches against Freiburg, which includes a 3-1 win in this exact fixture last season. However, Freiburg have won two of their previous three home matches against Dortmund, which included a run of two straight victories before defeat last term.
Both of these sides are in need of a response this weekend, as neither were at their best in their matches before the international break. However, Dortmund remains the pick, as we expect them to pick up a fourth straight win against their rivals.
